Dr. Weiner has always been interested in two things: medicine and computers. As Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine, he is able to explore both. Dr. Weiner is a very active laparoscopic surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery as well as implementation of new technologies in the operating room such as Lap-Band.
He is a member of the Great Lakes Weight Loss team and an active member of American Society
for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and Association for Surgical Education (ASE).
He is an active researcher in the field of surgical simulation developing new techniques and training surgical residents in Harper University Hospital’s Simulation Laboratory at the Surgical Learning Center.
Dr. Weiner has authored publications such as laparoscopic bariatric surgery in super-obese patients focusing on the safety and effectiveness for all patients.
